The Text Verification Tool TVT is a computer program for the automatic comparison of text and image content of a print template with the manuscript version. It was developed by the Frankfurt a. M. based company Schlafender Hase GmbH for international companies in the pharmaceutical industry whose product information and documentation must meet particularly high standards. It was developed primarily for highly regulated industries, but is suitable for proofreading in all situations in which it is necessary to ensure that the text and image content of a final print-ready document matches the original manuscript, regardless of document size, layout or format.

A variety of TVT updates have been released since its launch in 2003. TVT currently supports all common world languages, whether read from left to right or right to left. This also includes Braille and the Korean HWP format . TVT can compare several files of different file types in parallel. Supported file types include DOC , DOCX , RTF , PDF , Excel , TXT , AI , HWP (Hangul) and XML ( SPL files, as used by the Food and Drug Administration [FDA] in the United States). TVT also supports the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) QRD template and the ANSM's list of exceptions . Since the introduction of TVT 8.0 in the spring of 2016, users have been able to compare live text with vectorized text, as well as activate the complete verification using keyboard shortcuts. This leads to an additional time saving.

In 2018 TVT X was introduced with the TVT Artwork module. This image comparison tool serves as a complement to TVT. It was developed for electronic stage and print-ready proofs of packaging and labeling materials. It compares artwork pixel by pixel and quickly finds a deviation from the approved master. It is used by graphic designers and reviewers of packaging and labeling materials.

The TVT Spelling module was introduced in 2019. This add-on detects and eliminates misspellings as the manuscript goes through the proofreading process. TVT Spelling is equipped as standard with a dictionary function that supports all major EU languages. For users in the life science sector, the add-on can also be used with Stedman's ® Medical Dictionary to support the spell check of medical terminology. TVT Spelling's custom dictionary enables brand and product name review. With TVT, TVT Artwork and TVT Spelling, the user can do all of the checks with one tool, creating a comprehensive and easy-to-read report.

TVT does not compare the words as they can be seen on the monitor, but rather the Unicode characters that make up the words displayed. In this way, the program compares the original document with the print template - or any other documents - and detects any discrepancies in the text and image content between the compared documents. All deviations are clearly marked. This includes deviations in spelling, font type, font size, formatting, text style, order of words and paragraphs as well as missing text and missing graphics. To PDF edit documents, TVT uses the Adobe PDF library. Deviations and corrections can then also be saved in PDF format. In addition, all comments and changes to the document are documented in a detailed PDF report.

TVT can be used for any text and graphic file correction runs. Due to its accuracy, TVT is particularly suitable for highly regulated business areas such as the pharmaceutical industry, in which TVT is now the industry standard. In this regard, DVT saves a lot of time and accuracy, and prevents avoidable problems such as recalls and potential patient health problems that can lead to costly legal disputes for manufacturers.
