Rooster

The Thüringer Bart chicken is a German Hühnerrasse from the group of hood chickens , derived from the state of Thuringia , with a characteristic spring growth in the neck region ( "beard").

history

There are reports about the occurrence of bearded crested hens in the western part of the Thuringian Forest in the middle of the 18th century, which were known under the name Pausbäckchen. Possibly these are descended from Paduan crested chickens and local chickens.

Shades of color

The chicken is officially recognized in the colors blue-lined, chamois-white-dotted, yellow, sparrowed, gold-black-dotted, partridge-necked, black, silver-black-dotted and white.

Special association

In Germany, the breed is looked after by the Special Association for the Preservation of Thuringian Barthühner and Thuringian Dwarf Barthühner , which emerged in 1990 from the merger of the East and West German special associations, which were previously separated.
