The Big Six
The Big Six is the name of the six leading members of the United Gold Coast Convention Party (UGCC) founded in 1946 . The British colonial power blamed the group for the unrest that began in Accra , the capital of the Gold Coast , in February 1948 , which led to the imprisonment of the Six.
The group consisted of the following six members:
- Ebenezer Ako-Adjei (1916–2002), founding member of the UGCC
- Edward Akufo-Addo (1906–1979), founding member of the UGCC and President of Ghana (1970–1972)
- Joseph Boakye Danquah (1895–1965), founding member of the UGCC
- Kwame Nkrumah (1909–1972), member of the UGCC since 1947 and President of Ghana (1960–1966)
- Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey (1902–1963), founding member of the UGCC
- William Ofori-Atta (1910–1988), founding member of the UGCC
The group has been shown on all six notes of the third Cedi series since 2007 .
