The Bilders

The Bilders are an international group of musicians, the only constant member of which is Bill Direen from New Zealand .

history

The Builders Life concert in Vienna, Austria in 2013

Known in the 90s as the pioneers of the “ lo-fi movement”, the roots of Direen's music go back well into the mid-seventies. A safe distance from the breeding grounds of musical upheaval, he had already developed his own vision of modern rock music in 1977 in Christchurch, New Zealand . Influenced by situationist theories, the proto-punk of the Stooges and Modern Lovers and the limitless possibilities of the emerging post-punk movement, the early images played a breathtaking mixture of psychedelic pop and avant-garde underground rock . Over the years and decades, the sound has been refined, other styles have been integrated and a considerable number of sound carriers have appeared in the most varied of constellations.

Everything was and is possible, from various publications on the Flying Nun Records label to hand-painted in-house productions to the current reissues of rare and unreleased works on labels such as Unwucht and Siltbreeze Records. Despite the relentless joy in experimenting, Direen's unique talent as a songwriter and performer is still the constant that makes this music so exciting and unique.

A German-Austrian mini-tour in April 2013 offers an opportunity to experience the Bilders live with brand new material and classics from 35 years of band history.
