The Tapa – Tartu railway is an Estonian railway line . It has the Russian track width of 1520 mm, has a length of 112.5 km and is not electrified. The route is owned by Eesti Raudtee and operated by Elron .

history

The line was opened in 1876.

Operation today

Eight pairs of trains run continuously from Tallinn via Tapa to Tartu . Four of these are express trains, which only stop in Tallinn-Ülemiste , Tapa, Tamsalu and Jõgeva en route . Three of the express trains run beyond Tartu to Valga . The other four pairs of trains stop at all stations between Aegviidu and Tartu, but only in Kitseküla , Tallinn – Ülemiste and Kehra between Tallinn and Aegviidu . The other stations between Tallinn and Aegviidu can be reached by changing trains in Aegviidu. There is also a timely connection to the Elron trains Tallinn– Narva in Tapa . An additional pair of trains runs between Jõgeva and Tartu on weekdays in the afternoon, as well as a morning commuter train from Jõgeva to Tartu.
