The Tartu – Valga railway is a railway line in Estonia . It has the Russian track width of 1520 mm, has a length of 83 km and is not electrified. Edelaraudtee is the owner and operator of the route .
history
The line was opened in 1889.
On April 1, 2008, the line between Elva and Valga was temporarily closed. On July 1, 2008, the Tartu to Elva section followed . The tracks, platforms and stations were renewed after the closure and on December 30, 2009 the line was reopened with a free test drive. After the conversion, speeds of up to 120 km / h are now possible. The travel time was reduced by 45 minutes.
Operation today
Elron offers three pairs of trains on the line, each running between Tallinn and Valga. The travel time between Tartu and Valga is around 1 hour and 15 minutes.
