The Greenery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Greenery BV (translated roughly: the foliage, the greenery) is a Dutch wholesale company for fruits, vegetables and mushrooms with headquarters in Barendrecht . It is the marketing and sales organization of the Dutch agricultural cooperative Coforta , to which more than 1000 producers belong, and is wholly owned by them. Coforta was created in 1996 from the merger of nine fruit and vegetable auctions and the Centraal Bureau voor Tuinbouwveilingen, and The Greenery was founded in the same year.

In order to be able to offer a full range of fresh products all year round, The Greenery not only sells and markets the products of its parent cooperative members internationally, but also imports products from external suppliers from around 60 countries. In addition, the company holds stakes in production companies, including the British tomato grower North Bank Growers (NBG, formerly Baarda) and the Brazilian mango grower Produce and Trading Latin America (PTLA), and has in various areas (e.g. crop protection, quality assurance, logistics , Waste recycling) Cooperation agreements concluded. As of 2008, The Greenery held a 45% stake in the Dutch fresh vegetable processor Hessing BV ( Hessing Supervers ). In October 2014, the two companies agreed on a buyback by the Hessing family, which will then regain full ownership of the shares in Hessing Supervers after twelve years.

With a group turnover of 1.4 billion euros (2012), The Greenery is one of the largest fruit and vegetable marketers in Europe. The net result of the group in 2012 was 1.4 million euros, which was only achieved through good results from subsidiaries, because the main company itself has been in the red for years, despite improvement through restructuring. There are branches in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, Poland, Italy, Russia, Romania, Brazil and the USA. The group has established subsidiaries for the various product lines and market segments. In total, it employs well over 1000 people.

The customers of the products are large chain stores in Europe, North America and the Far East, wholesalers, gastronomy, catering companies and the food industry.
