The High-Lows ( Japanese ザ ・ ハ イ ロ ウ ズ , Za Hairōzu ) were a Japanese punk rock band that has existed since 1995 and has been on hiatus since 2005.

General

Hiroto and Mashi (Mashima Masatoshi) formed the band with the other three they knew before in 1995 . So you can understand the High-Lows as the successor to The Blue Hearts . It is worth mentioning that Shirai Mikio (Miki) already supported the Blue Hearts in the studio and at concerts, even though he was never an official member of the band. He left the high lows in 2005 to join the Blue Hearts drummer Kajiwara Tetsuya (Kaji-kun) as The Big Hip . In November of the same year, Hiroto announced that he was currently “not in the mood” for the high lows and was taking a “break”. In the period after that, Hiroto and Mashi appeared repeatedly incognito at festivals. Rumors of a new band began to arise. This was confirmed in late summer 2006 when The Cro-Magnons released their first single.

style

Stylistically, the high lows are much more "grown up" than the Blue Hearts. This is mainly reflected in the lyrics, which are mostly more “depth” and mostly more poetic than the mainly “rebellious” texts of the Blue Hearts. The melodies and rhythms are far less "hard" than before. Instead, there are often approaches of Latin rhythms and folk rock. Hiroto also plays the harmonica much more often than in the days of the Blue Hearts. Nevertheless, the high lows as well as the Blue Hearts can be classified in the genre of punk rock.
