The Malting Tower (monument number: 3277), built in 1886, is located on Grand Canal Quay 8. Originally the complex served as a winding tower, today The Malting Tower houses a restaurant, apartments and offices.

history

The Victorian- style malt house with its five-story winding tower along Gran Canal Quay was built in 1886. It was commissioned by the Guinness family after Brown's flour mill was completely destroyed by fire in February 1885. In 1995 the winding tower was rebuilt by the architects TJ Cullen and Co. and the new name "The Malting Tower" was formed from its original name "The Malthouse". Since its renovation, the headframe has included two additional floors, so that it has a total of seven floors. In addition, a staircase made entirely of glass plus a lift was added to the eastern outer facade, from which all floors can be reached.

The Italian restaurant "Osteria Lucio" is located on the ground floor. Various offices are located on the first to the fifth floor. The last two floors are intended for residential use.
