The Orange Box is a collection of computer games developed by Valve Corporation .

Two of the included games, Half-Life 2 and its first standalone expansion, Half-Life 2: Episode One , had previously been released as separate products. Three new games have also been added to the collection: the second stand-alone expansion, Half-Life 2: Episode Two , the Portal puzzle game and Team Fortress 2 , a multiplayer-only game. Valve also released a soundtrack of music from the games in the collection. A separate product called The Black Box was also planned , which would only contain the new games. However, this project has been canceled.

history

The collection was first released on October 10, 2007 for Microsoft Windows and nine days later for Xbox 360 , while the PlayStation 3 version developed by EA UK followed on December 11, 2007. A digital orange box package with the five games was released for OS X on May 27, 2010 after the platform was released on Steam , while a similar version for Linux followed after the Steam clients for Linux were released in early 2013.

reception

The Orange Box received critical acclaim, with Portal being the insider tip of the package. The PlayStation 3 version became known for several technical flaws that were not present in the other versions.
