The Stafford London is a 5 star - boutique hotel in St James's, London, England and one of the oldest hotels in London.

history

The Stafford was originally a private lodging house and club. In 1873 it became Green's Private Hotel , and later St. James's Place Hotel . This is where the Stafford Club , which is today named after, was founded in 1886 . During the Second World War , the hotel was used by Canadian and American officers. In 1947 the building contractor Richard Costain bought the hotel. At the time it had 62 rooms.

The restaurant 'The Game Bird' has existed since 2017 .

Wine cellar

The hotel's wine cellar was built in the 17th century by Lord Francis Godolphin and was used as an air raid shelter during World War II. Over 8,000 bottles of wine are stored in it.

American bar

The American Bar at the Stafford Hotel is part of the tradition of American cocktail bars that became famous in London and Paris in the 1920s and 1930s . It is one of the longest surviving American bars in London.
