The Upsetters (Jamaica)

The Upsetters was the studio band around the Jamaican reggae producer Lee Perry . The band was active with a changing line-up from 1968 to 1986.

It was originally formed from the members of Gladdy's All-Stars around the pianist Gladstone Anderson . With them Lee Perry produced the first successful record Return of Django / Dollar In The Teeth in 1969, which landed at number five in the British single charts in the same year and later through the computer game series Grand Theft Auto ( GTA: London 1969 or GTA San Andreas ) Became popular.

Also in 1969, the line-up of the Upsetters changed for the first time, because it was not possible for the Gladdy's All-Stars to accompany Lee Perry on a European tour. Instead, the members of the Hippy Boys played in their place . a. consisted of the brothers Aston Barrett (bass guitar) and Carlton Barrett (drums), as well as the guitarist Alva Lewis .

After their European tour, the Upsetters worked closely with the Wailers until Carlton and Aston Barrett joined the latter in 1971. From there on, the Upsetters no longer had a permanent cast.
