Publications
The album was first released as Scratch, the Super Ape in 1976 on the Jamaican label Upsetter as an LP . With a changed tracklist it was re-released in the same year by the Island label as Super Ape .
In 1978 the Upsetters brought out a sequel to Super Ape with Return of the Super Ape .

A reviewer of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra took Super Ape as an opportunity to Lee "Scratch" Perry as one of the "craziest and most experimental producers in music history" and " King Kong Reggae" to describe.
