Theater research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theater research is part of theater studies . The work of the university theater scholar is traditionally divided into teaching and research . While theater studies, which emerged from literary studies at the beginning of the 20th century, carried out philological and historical research, further fields of research opened up over the course of the century, such as architectural history, archeology , ethnology of the theater and, in cooperation with the social sciences , psychological or economic issues.

In recent times there have been efforts to practice-oriented research that began in the Anglo-American cultural area under the motto Practice as Research in Performance . The research program of the University of Bristol paved the way . Theater universities have recently also been obliged to conduct research in German-speaking countries and have the opportunity to apply for funds for this purpose.
