The Theaterplaz ( Luxembourgish ; French: Place du Théâtre ) is a public square in Luxembourg City . It is located in the upper town of Luxembourg on the Côte d'Eich and is bordered to the north by Rue Beaumont. The square, which is on the edge of the extensive inner-city pedestrian zone , has a basement with a 480-space public parking garage. This rectangular square was planned in 1872 on a largely undeveloped area.

The former Capuchin monastery in the north of the square , which has been owned by the city since 1868 and was used as the city theater from 1894 to 1964, is named after. Today it is the Théâtre Capucins . Until it was fully developed, the square was an urban open space lined with streets all around, with ornamental plants and a monument in honor of Princess Amalia in the middle. The Saltimbanques jugglers troupe by the artist Bénédicte Weis has been located there since 1987 . The Vox cinema was located in the northeast corner until 1963 after the Cinéma Catholique , founded in 1928, had been closed. From 1931 to 1940 it was called Cinéma Associatin Sainte Famille , and during World War II it was used as a soldiers' cinema. The Cinémathèque Municipale has been housed there since 1975 , after the Ciné Club 80 was located here in the interim .

The south and west sides are made up of residential and commercial buildings. In the middle is the group of six figures Saltimbanques by Bénédicte Weis .
