Theobald II (Blois)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theobald II (French: Thibaud ; * around 980; † July 11, 1004 ) was a count of Blois , Tours , Chartres , Châteaudun , Beauvais , Reims and Dreux , lord of Chinon and Saumur . He was a son of Count Odo I († 996) and his wife Bertha von Burgund († after 1010).

Little is known about Theobald. He grew up with his brother Odo at the court of his stepfather, King Robert II the Pious . Although Theobald was the main heir to one of the most powerful royal houses in France, he seems to have aspired to a clerical career. Together with his mother and brother, he is named in a deed of donation to the abbey of Bourgueil from the year 997. Theobald died on a pilgrimage to Rome and was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Pierre-en-Vallée near Chartres .
