The TDS Aarau is a higher technical school in Aarau in Switzerland and offers training in social diaconia and community animation. The graduates work as social deacons in regional and free churches, catechists or youth workers as well as in community work or in missions.

The TDS Aarau is centrally located directly at Aarau train station. TDS Aarau is represented in three working groups of Diakonie Schweiz, the umbrella organization for diakonia of the reformed regional churches in Switzerland.

education

The core is the four-year training in social diakonia and community animation. The TDS diploma in social diakonia is recognized by the reformed regional churches and includes the state-protected professional title "Community animation HF".

The training can be completed as a full-time or part-time study. The full-time study includes internships lasting several months, the part-time study is accompanied by an occupation.

As an alternative to the four-year training, a certificate in catechetics / youth work or theology / mission can be acquired in three years.

The study of theological, social and human-scientific modules is combined with practice-oriented social diakonia / community animation. Expertise is just as important as personal development. A climate of shared travel also contributes to this: students, lecturers and employees see themselves as a community. Contemplative moments, class events, meals and celebrations accompany her everyday life.

The evening and Saturday courses as well as individual modules from the main course are open to anyone interested.

history

The TDS (Theological-Diaconal Seminar) in Aarau was founded in 1960 as a Swiss Evangelical Bible School by three pastors from the Evangelical Reformed Church. The training goal were theologically trained church helpers . From 1988, the four-year diploma course and a two-year training course for part-time employees were offered. In 1992 the seminar moved to new premises at Aarau train station. The central location made it possible to offer day and evening courses for other interested parties.

Organization and financing

The TDS Aarau is sponsored by the "Theological-Diaconal Seminar Aarau" under the presidency of Ueli Frey. The school is financed through tuition fees and services, through contributions from the regional church as well as through donations, bequests and community collections. The state-recognized part of the training is also subsidized.
