Theoretical Science

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aristotle determines what theoretical science is on the one hand according to the object and on the other hand according to the interest in knowledge (cf. Metaphysics VI, 1 ).

Theoretical science considered

  • that which is independent of humans, that which is eternal and unchangeable and
  • which has no external purpose but knowledge itself.

For Aristotle, mathematics , first philosophy and natural philosophy fall under the theoretical science . The first philosophy deals with metaphysics , the natural philosophy with physics .
