Thermal transfer printing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term thermal transfer printing (composition of: thermal for “heat”, re for “back” and transfer for “transfer”) describes the four-color further development of single-color thermal transfer printing .

Thermal transfer printing is primarily used to print CD and DVD blanks using a special printer. When the printhead is heated, the color is detached from a ribbon in thermal transfer printing and transferred to a special transfer ribbon (retransfer ribbon). A film from this retransfer band is then melted onto the CD or DVD. This intermediate transfer enables a high resolution and the printing can be done in full area. The printing can be done before or after burning the CD / DVD. Special blanks are required.
