Thiele & Freese is one of the three large tea trading houses in East Frisia . It was founded on May 1, 1873 by Carl Thiele and Peter H. Freese as a wholesale colonial goods business and has its headquarters in the independent city of Emden . It is the only traditional company in the East Frisian tea industry that is run as a family business. The marketing of the products is done under the brand Thiele tea . The main and at the same time best-selling product is the East Frisian tea blend Broken Silver , with the Thiele & Freese tea trading company also producing fruit and Darjeeling teas as well as tea filters . The company employs around 25 people.

Thiele & Freese is one of the few companies that label their tea with the label “ Real East Frisian Tea ”. Other mixtures with a similar composition that are not sold by tea houses based in East Frisia have names such as "East Frisian mixture."
