Thinner was a net label that mainly focused on dub techno and other mainly gentle varieties of electronic music . At that time it was one of the most famous net labels in the field of electronic music.

history

The net label was founded in 1998 by the Swede Thomas Jaldemark. In 2001 Sebastian Redenz suggested that he change the musical direction to electronic dub. Later on, Thinner was run by Sebastian Redenz, Ole Schulte and an international team. In addition to web-based downloads, Thinner's publications were also distributed via file-sharing platforms such as Soulseek , and were played by radio DJs.

Thinner was based in Frankfurt-Nordend and, according to Spiegel Online, was "the best of its kind" in 2008 among thousands of net labels worldwide. In the annual de: Bug reader surveys , Thinner was repeatedly voted "Net Label of the Year" by a large margin.

The Thinner catalog includes releases by artists such as Digitalverein, Marko Fürstenberg, Benfay, Pheek, Veer, Krill.Minima , Mikkel Metal , Christian Bloch, Vladislav Delay , Danny Kreutzfeldt, Digitalis and Éloi Brunelle. By September 2006 the net label had over two million MP3 downloads. From December 2008 new publications were offered as downloads with costs. In addition, free offers were still planned. However, these were no longer realized, since 2009 all activities of the label have been suspended.

Sublabel and partnerships

Autoplate was a Thinners sub-label and focused on experimental electronica and ambient . It was discontinued in 2008.

Thinner and the Montreal Epsilonlab founded by Éloi Brunelle , which mainly concentrated on house , maintained a label partnership for several years. The two labels supported each other, exchanged ideas and organized joint parties. In 2006 they released a joint DVD called Epsilonlab vs Thinner: Silence is Presence, accompanied by a release on Thinner that was limited to the audio material.
