Thumbs Plus (from Thumbnail ) is a software for image management under the operating system Microsoft Windows . The program reads images and similar data from selected directories or entire drives and data carriers, creates thumbnails and saves image data, which can be supplemented with keywords, for example, in databases ( Access / MSSQL , SQLite , MySQL , Sybase , DB2 , PostgreSQL or Firebird ) from. Various versions allow multiple user network access to centrally managed databases. The most important basic functions for image processing are also available and can be used automatically.
In addition to the common image data formats (pixel format) such as TIFF , GIF , JPG , BMP and PNG , the program also supports vector graphics such as WPG and CDR , video formats such as MPG, MOV, MP4, WMV etc., other metafiles and fonts and many rarer formats from other operating systems as well most raw data formats , but only in the professional version. The latter also allows the integration of Photoshop - plug-ins . DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, WPD, PDF files and many more can also be displayed in the form of the first page of the file in this image, graphics, video and document management program.
ThumbsPlus reads or writes both Exif and IPTC data. In particular, the IPTC fields of individual images as well as large quantities at the same time can be conveniently edited with ThumbsPlus.
The program has particular strengths in the similarity recognition of similar images. It is possible to batch analyze very large image data sets with regard to the similarity that can be set in terms of percentage. This ability will u. a. also used by numerous investigative authorities. The manufacturer of the German edition provides the authorities with a police version free of charge for tracking child pornography .
ThumbsPlus 8 was announced for 2007, but a beta version was not released until January 2009. Version 9 was converted to Unicode in order to offer international character repositories. As a result, older Windows versions ( 95/98 / ME ) are no longer supported. Many components have been revised for the 64-bit Windows in order to enable faster image processing and more memory usage.
A German-language version of the software was offered up to version 7; the following versions are only in English.
