Sybase (spelling: Sybase, a SAP company ) is a provider of business and mobility software for the management, analysis and mobilization of information. These areas mainly include databases, development and design tools, synchronization and replication software and products for the mobile enterprise ( PDA , cell phone , ...), which also includes services (SMS, MMS, IMS, mobile payment, ...) ) for cell phone companies. Sybase is a subsidiary of SAP SE .

Sybase has subsidiaries and offices in over 60 countries (as of July 2011) and at the end of 2010 employed 3,726 people worldwide.

  • Sybase (initially called Systemware ) was founded in 1984 by Mark Hoffman and Bob Epstein in Berkeley, California.
  • In early 1988, Sybase entered into a partnership with Microsoft and Ashton-Tate to market the SQL Server for the new OS / 2 operating system .
  • In November 1994 Sybase took over Powersoft , which had previously owned Watcom .
  • In May 2000, Sybase founded the subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions.
  • In February 2003 Sybase took over AvantGo, thereby strengthening iAnywhere's position.
  • In May 2004, Sybase integrated the acquired companies XcelleNet and Dejima into iAnywhere.
  • In May 2005, Sybase expanded its information management and mobility solutions with the acquisition of ISDD and Avaki.
  • In June 2006 Sybase acquired Solonde AG.
  • In November 2006, Sybase took over Mobile 365 , a service provider for international SMS and MMS exchange for network providers and providers of premium services.
  • At the beginning of 2009, Sybase took over Paybox Solution AG from Raunheim with their range of products for mobile payments and integrated them into Sybase 365. In 2008, Sybase 365 forwarded more than 200 billion messages (SMS and MMS).
  • On May 12, 2010, it was announced that the Sybase board of directors had approved the acquisition by SAP . SAP completed the acquisition of Sybase on July 30, 2010. Since then, Sybase has been a wholly owned subsidiary of SAP America.
