The Tien Chien I (Sky Sword I) is a short-range air-to-air missile that entered service with the Taiwanese Air Force in 1993 . Development of the Tien Chien I began in the mid-1980s at the Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology . The aim of the development was a missile that could be deployed according to the fire-and-forget principle and that would be able to fly very precise and extreme maneuvers.

It is also used as a short -range surface-to-air missile .
