The Tiergarten Eisenberg is an animal park in Eisenberg in Thuringia .
The 2.5 hectare site is home to around 720 animals of 44 different species. The zoo shows small breeds of domestic animals, wild animals from Australia and African mountain regions, as well as native forest dwellers. Eisenberg Zoo is a member of the German Zoo Society .
history
The Eisenberg zoo was inaugurated in 1971. It was created on the site of the former Geyer's garden . This original system got its name from the piano parts dealer Felix Geyer. As an admirer of science and the arts, he had his property redesigned into a garden with rare trees, grottos, winding paths and an artificial castle ruin. After the inauguration on June 20, 1895, the garden was open to everyone on Sundays. The park remained closed to the public from 1914 onwards. It was not until the mid-1960s that part of the site was used for the Young Naturalists Working Group . In 1969 a working group of ten people was formed with the aim of redesigning the area into a zoo. After two years of work, the zoo was opened in October 1971.
Events and attractions
Every Easter Sunday, the Easter bunny hides the Easter eggs for all zoo visitors. The highlight of the season is the two-day zoo festival in August.
A special attraction for children is the walkable dwarf farm , where feeding and petting the animals is expressly allowed.
