Tierstudien is an interdisciplinary journal that deals primarily with the human-animal relationship from a cultural and humanities perspective. It is the first German-language journal for the young research field of human animal studies and is published by the art historian Jessica Ullrich at Neofelis Verlag . The focus is on the culturally and historically grown preferences and attitudes of and towards animals, as well as current approaches and theories of the human-animal relationship. Artistic contributions complement the scientific explanations. Each of the issues, which appear twice a year, has an overarching topic for which a call for papers is published.

A scientific advisory board checks the individual contributions.
