Timothy cross and pillar in memory of Timothy Apian

The Timotheus Cross is a two-part memorial stone made of tuff stone at the place of death of the surveyor Timotheus Apian, erected by his brother Philipp Apian . Timotheus and Philipp were traveling through what is now the Miesbach district in Upper Bavaria for the Bavarian topographical survey when Timotheus fell from his horse and died on September 10, 1562 near the hamlet of Feldschuster in Einhaus (today the Warngau community ). The site of the accident is marked on the land plate 22 of the Apian map series with a distinctive cross symbol east of “Ainhaus”. The two stones on Kreisstraße MB 10 - a cross and a pillar - are listed under file number D-1-82-136-40 as a monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.
