The Tirpitz Mountains are a mountain range on Lavongai Island , Papua New Guinea . It extends in an east-west direction and has a series of steep mountain tops and ridges. Significant elevations of the mountains are Mount Deimling and the very steep Mount Suilou (566 m; also Bati Suilaua or Stoschberg ), which can be seen from afar .
The Tirpitz Mountains were named after the German Secretary of State for the Navy and Grand Admiral Alfred Freiherr von Tirpitz .
