Tohoku Mathematical Journal

The Tohoku Mathematical Journal (Tohoku Math. J., TMJ) is a mathematics journal of the University of Tōhoku since 1911 . It appears quarterly. The language of the publications is English. It is the oldest and first mathematical journal in Japan.

The Tohoku Mathematical Journal was founded in 1911 by Hayashi Tsuruichi . The first series was 49 volumes until 1943. Then there was an interruption due to the Second World War and the second series appeared from 1949.

Well-known articles by Alexander Grothendieck and Claude Chevalley appeared in the magazine in the 1950s . In particular, Grothendieck's work Sur quelques points d'algèbre homologique is often referred to as “The Tôhoku paper”.

The ISSN is 0040-8735.
