The top 12 2020 should be the 40th French team championship in chess . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the competition was completely canceled, all clubs retained their starting authorization for the 2021 staging.

The defending champion is the Club de Bischwiller ; L'Echiquier Agenais , C'Chartres Échecs and Villejuif Échecs were promoted from Nationale I last year .

The twelve participating teams should have played a simple round-robin tournament in Chartres from June 4 to 14, 2020 . The number of team points (3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for a defeat, 0 points for a defeat without a fight) would have decided on the placement. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison would have made the difference, then the board point balance (difference between the number of winning and losing games).
