Topogram / map scheme

A topogram is a greatly simplified and schematized cartographic representation. Examples of topograms are line network maps for local public transport or route maps.

Topograms should be easy to grasp and only have content elements that are actually important for the respective purpose. Topograms are usually not to scale, only show individual elements in the correct position, others are mapped according to their positional relationship to one another ( topology ).

The terms map scheme and position sketch are used synonymously .
