The Arch of Charenz

The Arch of Charents is a monument in honor of the Armenian poet Yeghic Charents . It lies at an altitude of 1500 meters on the edge of the Ararat plain . Tscharenz died on November 27, 1937 in the course of the Great Terror . In 1954, a year after Stalin's death, he was rehabilitated. On a small hill on the road to the Garni Temple, a monument was erected in 1957 according to plans by the architect Rafajel Israjeljan , which has since been called the Arch of Charentesreferred to as. It offers a panoramic view of Mount Ararat, the national symbol of the Armenians. The monument itself is a simple building made of masonry stones. Above the arch is a verse from the poem My Armenia written by Yeghische Tscharenz in 1920 . It reads: “Roam the world - there is no white peak like that of Ararat. I love the summit of Mount Ararat - as if on the way to unattainable glory. ”It is said that the hill was one of the poet's favorite places.
