Gate fire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Torfire is a term used in seafaring .

Torfires (or shore lights ) are beacons that mark the fairway along numerous important shipping routes, mostly on the banks of rivers. Torfires stand at short, regular intervals on the bank. With their help, the ship can recognize when it is getting too close to the shore - from the ship's perspective, the lights on the nearer side of the shore then approach each other.
