Torfit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Torfit is a stone-like building material based on peat from the former Torfit-Werke GA Haseke & Co in Hemelingen near Bremen. Its specialty is that due to its chemical composition the bacterial decomposition and thus the formation of strongly smelling ammonia compounds of the urine adhering to it largely does not occur. It was therefore particularly used in the 1920s and supplied in sheets and fittings that were used to manufacture urinals .
