Torre Picada

The Torre Picada is a watchtower and defense tower northeast of the port entrance of Port de Sóller on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . Its location is part of the municipality of Sóller .

The Torre Picada, with its height of around 11 meters and almost the same diameter, is one of the larger structures in the network of historic fortification towers that encompass the island, which were built to protect against recurring pirate attacks .

Historical records show that the planning took place after one of the last great pirate attacks on Sóller in 1561. However, construction did not begin until 1614 and was completed at the end of 1622.

A special feature is the location of the entrance door. To prevent direct attacks at close range, it was located several meters above the ground. Due to its location directly on the 160 meter high cliffs of the cliffs of Port de Sóller, the tower gave the guards an excellent overview of the offshore islands of s'Illetas on the right and the entrance of the port entrance of Port de Sóller on the left.

The Torre Picada has been restored and is now privately owned. It cannot be climbed by visitors.
