The Torre de Quintela (dt. Tower of Quintela) is in the village of Quintela , municipality of Vila Marim , district and district of Vila Real , in Portugal . It was built in a dominant position on a rock of the Alvão .

history

The tower was built in the reign of Alfonso III. (1248–1279) built at the behest of D. Alda Vasques, who lived in it as a manorial seat. After a brief use by the Order of the Templars , the tower finally became the property of the Counts of Vimioso . The tower is mentioned in the novel "O Anátema" by Camilo Castelo Branco . In 1910 the building was classified as a National Monument by decree . The restoration of the tower was carried out through the high personal commitment of the priest João Parente, who has dedicated himself to the study of regional history. The use of the building as a museum of medieval art is currently being prepared.

Stately building in the Gothic style. Square floor plan with a side length of 10 meters each, the height is almost 30 meters. At about half the height of the surfaces and on the four corner points of the roof are crenellated oriels.

Inside there are four floors, which are connected by a wooden staircase.
