Toulouse goose

Toulouse geese were bred as pure livestock in France. The liver in particular, which is larger than that of other breeds, is used by the French for foie gras pate . With their massive body, the Toulouse people are the heaviest breed of foreign geese . You are calm and extremely trusting.

origin

These geese come from the Toulouse area in southern France. In England, the animals that were bred in France several hundred years ago only for useful purposes, were racially refined and today's breed attributes were created. The breeding status of this breed has a very high level in Germany.

Breed characteristics

The torso of this heavy breed of goose is relatively short, broad, and very massive compared to other breeds. The Toulouse goose has a well-developed rump with a double, low-hanging dewlap.

The head is broad and high, with a flat forehead, carried horizontally, well developed throat dewlap. The bill is short, thick, and curved downward towards the tip, orange in color with a pale bean. The eyes of all specimens are dark brown with a narrow orange ring around the pupil. The neck is of medium length, carried erect and wider than other breeds of geese.

The almost horizontally carried back is broad, straight and merges into a short horizontally carried tail. The Toulouse goose is characterized by a full, low chest. It has a straight chest keel. The broad, half-long, high and close-fitting wings of this breed are not able to make these heavy animals airworthy. The short, strong thighs are completely hidden in the very rich side plumage. The legs are strong, short and orange in color, with the toenails being dark in color.

  • Color gray. As with the gray goose , as rich as possible, in black or blue with a fine white feather border. Tail gray with white edges. Belly and tail plumage white. Young animals are lighter than old ones and more brownish-gray.
  • Weight: goose 9–10 kg, goose 8–9 kg.
  • Hatching eggs: 160 g minimum weight.
  • Shell color of the eggs: white.
