Tower Hill
Tower Hill is an elevation northwest of the White Tower between the boroughs of City of London and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets . In the late Middle Ages the area had its own jurisdiction and was under the administration of the Tower of London.
Excavations indicate an early settlement of the hill during the Bronze Age . In Roman times, a settlement emerged that was burned down during the Boudicca uprising in AD 60–61.
All Hallows-by-the-Tower Church is known for its partially Romanesque architecture, which was dated back to 680.
Public executions of aristocratic criminals were carried out on the hill. Among them were:
- 1497: James Tuchet, 7th Baron Audley , one of the commanders in the Cornish Rebellion of 1497 , executed June 28th

- 1662: Sir Henry Vane
- 1683: Algernon Sidney
- 1685: James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth
- 1746: William Boyd, 4th Earl of Kilmarnock

- 1747: Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat
Women, on the other hand, were executed in Tower Green within the walls of the Tower of London.
