Trace Elliot is a manufacturer of electric bass - amps .

Identification is and was the specific Trace Elliot green . The front of the old amplifiers glows green when it is irradiated with black light (for this purpose, extra tubes were integrated that make the lettering fluorescent ). In the following series, it is an electrical effect in which elements were introduced into the paint that glowed at low voltage. In the new series, it is green LEDs that light up the front.

The graphic equalizer is typical of Trace Elliot , after all , Trace Elliot was one of the first amplifier companies to introduce it. Originally, eleven (pre-stage GP-11) or seven (pre-stage GP-7) frequency bands could be edited using sliders; at the end of the 1980s, the system was upgraded to twelve bands. The possibility of presetting particularly popular basic sounds ( preshape ) is one of the well-known features of these amplifiers.

Some of the amplifier components, such as the graphic equalizer, chorus and compressor , were also offered as separate floor pedals. For a short time, Trace Elliot offered electric bass guitars under his own name. These were manufactured by the English manufacturer Status and were on the market under the name Status Trace Elliot T-Bass or simply T-Bass .

In addition to bass amplifiers, Trace Elliot also manufactured amplifiers for electric and acoustic guitars . These sold rather poorly because the company had too much of the image of a bass amplifier manufacturer.

The company got into trouble in the late 1990s and was sold to Gibson . The amplifier program was continued before production was completely stopped in early 2003.

After 2003, the Trace-Elliot factory produced amplifiers for Orange . Peavey then bought the rights to the name Trace Elliot and in 2005 presented a completely redesigned series of amplifiers. These new amplifiers will be built in England again, still have green glowing controls, the typical twelve-band equalizer and the speakers will continue to be equipped with Celestion speakers.

Mark Gooday , who was an engineer and manager at Trace Elliot for many years, founded Ashdown Engineering after the acquisition of Trace Elliot by Kaman Music in 1997 . Initially alone, then with many of Trace Elliot's employees, he and Ashdown strived to develop a complex range of amplifiers, from bass amplifiers to acoustic guitar amps and even electric guitar amps.
