Traffic information memo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Traffic Information Memo (TIM; also Traffic Information Memory ) is a system for storing traffic reports in car radios.

function

Car radios with TIM function have a digital voice memory in which they automatically save all traffic reports while receiving traffic reports. A typical recording length in the 1990s was four minutes, so that when a new message was received, a corresponding number of old messages were deleted in order to be able to save the new announcement. Longer traffic reports could not be stored in full and were shortened if necessary.

The stored traffic reports can be called up at any time by pressing your own TIM button. If several messages are available, they can be selected individually using menu buttons such as left / right.

In order to be able to listen to the current traffic reports as soon as you leave, many devices have a programming function, similar to video recorders. The car radio then switches on at the programmed time (approx. 1.5 hours before the planned departure time) and saves the traffic reports sent.

equipment

TIM was introduced by Blaupunkt in 1991. Many Blaupunkt car radios from the 1990s, e.g. B. the Copenhagen RCR 45, had a TIM key.
