Transpiration rate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transpiration rate is the amount of water that a living being releases into the atmosphere through transpiration per period of time under certain conditions .

The rate depends on

  • the ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, air speed, solar radiation)
  • the anatomy of the living being (a reptile with dry, dense skin, for example, has a lower transpiration rate than an amphibian with its thin, moist skin)
  • the metabolism (intense physical activity increases the core temperature, which must be reduced again due to increased perspiration when the outside temperature is higher)
  • psychological factors ("sweat of fear")

One way to measure the transpiration rate is the perspiration balance .
