Meet the bell

The Treff Glocke from 1953 is one of the so-called nut vending machines and is a vending machine with the original purpose of selling unsalted peanuts . The device manufactured by the company Treff was mainly used in restaurants. As a forerunner of such vending machines, a hazelnut machine was developed by Gebr. Paetz in Magdeburg as early as 1925 .

The peculiarity of the Treff bell is its characteristic post-war design of the fifties, whereby a tail fin was used as a stylistic element instead of a simple lid. This includes both the coin slot and the coin validator. In the middle of the glass top there is a rail through which the money slides into the cash register in the base of the device. The nuts can be obtained through a flap on the front after the coin has been inserted by pressing down the lever on the right side of the foot. All nut machines were served with 10 pfennigs.

In the meantime, nut bells have completely disappeared from the market and have become popular collector's items. This is due on the one hand to the fact that the nuts in the bells become rancid over time if they are not sold, and on the other hand because it is not possible to switch to the euro .
