separator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a separator or Bumper refers short concise sound effects on the radio (or additionally short in television animation / aperture) separating in message formats topics from each other and are intended to illustrate the beginning of a new topic. Separators usually only last a few seconds. Depending on the legal situation, advertising and program content are also often separated from one another by an advertising separator.

In the past, separators (as well as jingles ) were played by special tape machines on which they were available several times. So it sometimes happened that the tape continued to run in the event of a malfunction, which disrupted the program and the moderators. Today they are stored digitally on a hard drive and are played back using a computer.
