Advertising separator
An advertising separator (also known as an insert ) is an element in broadcasting that separates an advertising block from the rest of the program.
Austria
In Austria, Section 43 AMD-G regulates the separation of advertising content from the rest of the program. As a result, advertisements must be clearly recognizable and visually, acoustically or spatially separated from the editorial content.
Germany
Legal regulation
The separation of program and advertising is prescribed by the State Broadcasting Treaty , most recently by the 4th amendment to the State Broadcasting Treaty.
"The beginning of the television advertising ... must be clearly identified by an optical signal (advertising logo) and be recognizable for the viewer". The advertising logo must completely fill the screen for at least three seconds and must be clearly different from the general broadcaster logo.
development
In the early days of television in particular , German public television often developed its own characters such as the Sehpferdchen (NDR) or the Mainzelmännchen (ZDF) for this purpose . Other well-known advertising separators are Ute, Schnute, Kasimir (WDR), Äffle and Pferdle (SWF / SDR), Saarlodris (SR), Onkel Otto (HR) and the Telemiezen (SWF).
These commercial separators were intended to entertain the viewer during the advertising block and therefore ran between the individual spots. In contrast, the advertising separators have become increasingly simpler in recent years. Now the main purpose is more of a better transition between the program and the advertising island, sometimes also in the positioning of a program or the promotion of certain programs.
