Dividing pillars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dividing pillar , often also called group pillar , is a column on which the ends of two superstructures of a multi-part bridge are supported one behind the other. The bridge superstructure has a joint above a separating pillar . The head of the separating pillar has two bearing axes transverse to the longitudinal direction of the bridge and is therefore wider than a normal pillar of the same structure.
