Trialism (from Greek τρίαthree or Latin trialiscontaining three ) denotes a division into three. The term describes more precisely:

  • Efforts in the second half of the 19th century to transform the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy with a Slavic part of the empire into a three-part state that also includes the Slavic population groups; see trialism
  • Contrary to the Platonic dualistic conception, modern psychology and pedagogy proceed from a trinity of body, soul and spirit as essential characteristics of the human being; see triad (pedagogy)
  • Some legal and social philosophers ( triad (culture) ) also represent methodical trialism in the sense of a three-world doctrine .
