Tropical Institute

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term tropical institute denotes an institute or a facility of a university clinic or a hospital that deals with the medical field of tropical medicine (in a more modern orientation including the cultural and economic health issues of tropical countries). In addition to well-known tropical medicine research institutions such as B. the Bernhard Nocht Institute in Hamburg (founded in 1892) or the Tropical Medicine of the Meduni Vienna (ISPTM, 1939 at the Hygienic Institute ) also non-university institutions bear this name. The Basel Tropical Institute  (1943) in Switzerland is one of the six largest institutions in the world in the field of public health today.

With the increase in vacations abroad, there are also small medical practices in Austria, called Tropical Institute , which primarily offer prophylactic vaccinations (private patient care). These are partly criticized because of unnecessary measures and excessive prices.
