The Schieratz military training area was built in early 1940 by the German Wehrmacht on the territory of occupied Poland near the town of Schieratz ( Sieradz ) in the Wartheland . Large parts of the districts of Schieratz , Welun and Lask were used to build it. Its establishment is related to the construction of a number of very large training areas for the German Wehrmacht in occupied Poland. The exercise area covered an area of more than one hundred square kilometers. The practice area was used in particular to practice large-scale combat between combined weapons and strong armored units . It was so large that several divisions could practice there at the same time. Thousands of residents had to evacuate their homes to set up the practice site. The extent to which forced laborers were used in the construction of the square has not yet been conclusively clarified.

On July 1, 1943, the merger of these districts and all of their communities within the training area Schieratz took place on Heeresgutsbezirk Schieratz.
