The Chechen State University ( Russian Чеченский государственный университет , Chechen Нохчийн мехкан университет / Noxçiyn mexkan universitet also briefly CHGU (Grozny) and uni (versity) Grozny called) in Grozny is the largest university in the Russian republic of Chechnya .
It was founded in 1938 as the "Grozny Teachers Institute" and was soon converted into a university. This was badly damaged during the two Chechen wars and reopened in April 2000.
In the 2011 winter semester, 19,022 students were enrolled.
