The Soviet Cheetverikov TA-1 ( Russian Четвериков ТА-1 ) was a Soviet multipurpose amphibious flying boat from the second half of the 1940s. It was the last seaplane designed by Igor Cheetverikov . A total of three prototypes were built.

development

It was planned to use the TA-1 in the impassable areas in the east and north of the USSR as a cargo and passenger aircraft. Potential users should be the Aeroflot and the Soviet naval forces .

Development work began in 1947 and was carried out by a Leningrad engineering collective led by Cheetverikov . The TA-1 was used as abgestrebter all metal - Hochdecker constructed with a straight wing and empennage Normal. The two main wheels drove into the fuselage on the right and left during the flight.

The first prototype started for flight testing in July of the same year. He had poor flight characteristics, especially the maneuverability left a lot to be desired.

The design was therefore revised, the span was slightly increased and the weight was reduced. This machine flew for the first time in early 1948. In the same year a version called TAF (ТАФ) was created. It was intended as a survey and aerial photography boat and was therefore equipped with two aerial cameras . In the same year it began flight tests. Although it reached a higher peak height and range than the first prototype, the other properties had not been significantly improved, so that a decision was made against series production.
